For three times in the last 2 years, the walls at Vancouver’s legendary Commodore Ballroom shook with a thousand people shouting “Club People, they got no f–king soul”.

The newly minted Jordan Carrier and the Soviets brought the anthems and the crowds did the rest. Infectious melodies, powerful rock songs performed by a killer band and a singer whose intensity is almost scary.

Jordan recorded the solo album Absence Of Wonder (“one of the best local releases of the year” – Tom Harrison, Vancouver Province) [2008]. From that record came the single “Club People”, a local hit on 99.3 The Fox after Carrier and his new found band the Soviets scaled to the top of Vancouver Seeds, the legendary showcase that spawned Daniel Wesley, Nickelback, and Bif Naked, among others. “Club People” became one of the most requested songs that year and launched the band into a streak of high profile opening gigs. Jordan Carrier and the Soviets have since shared the stage with Loverboy, Daniel Wesley, Wide Mouth Mason, Odds, Marcy
Playground, Thornley and, most recently, Trooper. “I think that the bigger acts know that we’ll do
the leg work for them, whipping up the crowd and frying the stage… It happens every time.”

After a swift western Canadian tour, JCatS found themselves back in the studio, putting on tape what was working so well on stage. “We have become a Rock Band with a capital R,” says Brendan McLean, the Soviets drummer. “We wanted to make a Rock Album, much harder than Jordan’s last record.” The addition of respected local guitarist Darren ‘Bison’ Henderson and bassist (and co-producer) Brad Graham lent some heft to the project, “and getting new gear didn’t hurt one bit either,” says Carrier. The Soviets were excited to find themselves at Turtle
Recording Studios, the famed White Rock B.C. studio where so many Canadian acts (Nickelback, Daniel Wesley, KoS, Sarah McLachlan) recorded their first records, with Larry Anschell, (Daniel Wesley’s “Ooh Oh”) on board to do the mixing honours.
